What to Expect at Your First Visit
STEP 1: PRE-TESTING
- When you arrive, our team will guide you through a series of quick and comfortable pre-tests using advanced digital technology. These tests help us gather important information about your eyes before you see the doctor.
- On your first visit, we will review your personal and family medical history, discuss any chronic conditions or allergies. We will identify your specific needs and evaluate your eye health for glasses, contacts, and eye diseases. Based on the results of your test, the doctor will prescribe a customized treatment plan for you or prescribe further testing if needed. The doctor will dilate your eyes to evaluate the health of your eye.
STEP 2: YOUR COMPREHENSIVE EXAM
- During your exam, the doctor will evaluate both your vision and overall eye health. This includes checking for changes in your prescription, assessing how your eyes work together, and screening for early signs of eye conditions.
- We take the time to explain everything clearly and answer your questions so you feel confident in your care.
WILL MY EYES BE DILATED?
- In many cases, yes – and here’s why that matters. Dilating your eyes allows us to get a much more detailed view of the back of your eye, including the retina and optic nerve. This is essential for detecting early signs of conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal issues, and even signs of systemic health conditions.
While dilation can cause temporary light sensitivity and blurry near vision for a few hours, it plays a critical role in protecting your long-term eye health.
For certain patients, we may offer advanced imaging as an alternative, depending on your needs. We’ll always discuss your options and make sure you’re comfortable every step of the way.
STEP 3: YOUR PERSONALIZED PLAN
- After your exam, we’ll review your results and create a plan tailored specifically to you. This may include glasses, contact lenses, dry eye treatment, or medical care depending on your needs.
How do I prepare for my eye exam?
If you take any medications or supplements, be sure to bring that list with you. The doctor will evaluate your list to see if any of the medications are causing any problems with your vision or ocular health.
If you wear eyeglasses, bring your most current and clearest pair of glasses, computer glasses, sunglasses, and back up pair of glasses. We will evaluate your vision while wearing the glasses.
If you wear contact lenses, bring you most recent prescription. If you don’t have the prescription, then bring your contact lens box and case. The doctor will let you know if the lenses are still a great fit for your eye health.
