Minneola Eye Doctor
If you have diabetes, it is very important that you come to our vision practice, Clermont Family Eyecare for a periodic diabetic screenings. Our
Minneola eye doctor, Dr. Samantha Love, can thoroughly examine your eyes to make sure that you are not developing any signs of diabetic retinopathy which can threaten your good vision.
When a patient has diabetes, they run the risk of developing eye problems due to the fact that they have heightened blood sugar levels. The best way to avoid developing complications from diabetes is by keeping your blood sugar levels as close to normal as possible. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in people under the age of 65. Diabetes has been associated with the development of cataracts and glaucoma. However, the main threat to patients’ eyes from diabetes is the development of diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is the name for several different types of diseases which affect the retina and the surrounding blood vessels. When patients come to our vision practice, our
Minneola eye doctor will perform a comprehensive eye exam that includes a complete examination of the retina and surrounding blood vessels. By viewing the back of the eye, our optometrist will see if there are any signs of problems resulting from diabetes. This examination may show that blood vessels are leaking, or that extra, smaller blood vessels are growing in the area of the retina. If you have any of the following symptoms of diabetic retinopathy you should make an immediate appointment to see our optometrist. Symptoms of diabetic retinopathy can include: blurred or distorted vision; a large number of floaters in your vision; partial or total loss of vision; a shadow appearing across your field of vision; pain in the eyes; or constant redness of the eye.
